There is certainly room for growth within the manufacturing of bamboo into a fibre but we trust that those who are also involved and considering new technics are being developed as we speak, also have the environments best interest at heart and are striving to become better at what they do. There is plenty of literature about the ongoing progress in the development of bamboo into a fibre. Here’s what we know about bamboo. It takes less space to grow that that of cotton or other woody plants, the use of pesticides and herbicides is minimal to none. It requires far less water to grow than cotton, relying predominately on the natural rainfall. Harvesting does not uproot the plant; it is left to continue to flourish, harvesting in fact helps the plants regrowth. It is mostly planted in areas which are less suitable for housing or crop development and soil stability is aided due to its compact root system. Bamboo being naturally derived has to be far better than polyesters and other fabrics made from petrochemicals on so many levels. We believe bamboo a sound environment choice for the use in textiles; we also believe it is the way of the future in all its applications as water becomes scarcer and cultivated land areas smaller.
